There’s something about fish.

We're all just being trained to touch that blue ball, with fish as a reward.

I visited Ocean Park in Hong Kong the other day and saw some wet things. Here they are:

We hide from the world, perhaps sticking your tongue out at it.

Sometimes I want to cuddle on a stoop, allowing hundreds of mainland tourists yell at me to move a little. In due time my friends, I shall be your Prada bag.

I dropped my lens cap into a turtle pond. I had to take a picture of it.

Said turtle pond.

A forlorn wooden fish.

I didn't name him. He lived in the shadow of another fish with flashy jaguar print.

A pretty blue monster.

Brain coral!

My favorite shot: A hammerhead leading an army.

White White Taiyuan

Title is funny because it was snowing and Taiyuan was white. Also, I was (and presumably still am) white, which for Taiyuan, is an unusual circumstance, made even more so since it was the Spring Festival.

It was a fun time though and I ate a lot of good food. Here are some pictures I took:

A scary lion! (preening of course)

My favorite shot which was more of an accident. I like the colors.

Simple shot of a window I liked. I like that it looks like it could actually be on the ground, filled with water, but it’s just glass inset into the wall.

A lamp post.

For the People.

Obligatory Picture of Dog. Thug life and all that.

Not my favorite shot (it’s cluttered), but I think it’s spooky.

That’s it for now. Look for more updates with shots from Hong Kong. I need to use more lenses.

Cheers,

Kevin

Tiantan Puppies

I visited the Tiantan Buddha with my girlfriend recently. I brought my camera and some lenses. Rather than take a lot of pictures of the Buddha, I took a bunch of pictures of dogs.

I really like dogs.

Puppies fighting over a cup.

Such a nice puppy.

I was taking a picture of her pups when this momma pup put her head on my knee. She wanted attention too.

I get tired eating trash too.

An older pup. No less cute for sure.

A flower.

A Buddha.

A general.

Aging

With a new Nikkor AF 50mm 1.8f lens, I felt like playing a little with depth of field in poorly lit spaces.

I also worked with the theme of aging (really just found items).

Hail to the King and his loyal subject.

Serving the empire, a Tie Fighter pilot guards a prize.

Calling in heavy armor.

A commander with one blade overlooks another blade.

Childhood ends with adulthood.

And a brightly lit hallway.

Po Toi Island – Part One

On December 31, 2011, I took my Nikon D3100 and two lenses (18-55mm & 55-300mm) to Po Toi Island, just south of Hong Kong island.

The island has something like 20 permanent residents. Only one ferry goes to the island each day. The island residents plus everyone on the ferry will be the only  people with you on the island. Most people (guailo in particular) stay clear of the hiking trails so it was a very solitary and peaceful experience out there.

I highly recommend it.

Bird flying on water. Taken from ferry from Aberdeen.

Some post-processing to hit the older style of photography, particularly for that “Oriental look” common in historical photographs taken by Western members of Chinese society.

Grave site. Haunting and beautiful.

Rocks on the harbor.

Coming into port. De-saturated color effects.

In the coming days and weeks, I will post more photos from Po Toi, especially images from the mountains and beaches.

Yours,

Kevin
